Performer
Chris Hon is an energetic performer with versatility across several styles and instruments. He often plays with jazz ensembles on piano, upright bass, guitar. Chris also plays with R&B and soul artists on electric piano, bass, or guitar, and contemporary pop acts playing custom-designed synthesizer sounds, or effect-laden electric bass or guitar. And whether at the center of an organ trio or as a soulful texture in a band mix, he can also be found at the Hammond organ. Enjoy some highlights below!
Producer
In addition to live performances on stage, Chris is also at home in the studio. He produces anything from songs with full band instrumentation like his collaboration with singer-songwriter Kemi Adegoroye (see playlist below) to sparse and sensitive film score music.
Sound Designer
Both on stage and in the studio, Chris prides himself on designing the right sound for the job. As a keyboardist performing modern styles in particular, he is often called on to replicate iconic timbres from recordings and enjoys creatively exploring the soundscaping possibilities of synthesizers and audio effects.
Chris does sound design work on a variety of devices and platforms. As an example, KGSynth is a collection of sounds he designed for use with the Akai MPC ecosystem. Below are brief demos showcasing the sounds themselves, which he uses in his work with cover bands, other artists, and his own compositions and productions.
